About the Resourceful Lawyer
Hi, I’m Katherine, the Resourceful Lawyer.
I entered the legal field as an outsider, coming from a teaching background with no connections to the business world. This may explain why my law firm journey was filled with what I thought were “mistakes” – like expressing concern about balancing a career and family. Despite being recognized as a capable lawyer, I was told I lacked the “right personality” for partnership and left, believing the fault was mine.
Over time, I realized I was not alone. Many would-be top-performers find their paths blocked because they didn’t “fit” with the firm culture. I became determined to stop this costly talent drain so that top-performers could reach their full potential. My breakthrough came with design thinking, a problem-solving approach used by innovating companies to design the produces and services we all know and love. (If you’re reading this in an iPhone, you know who I mean.) Initially skeptical about its relevance to culture, I soon recognized that its transformative power could be harnessed for tricky human problems like equity, inclusion, and firm culture.
Leveraging my insights from time in a mid-sized law firm, and my knowledge of design thinking, I developed a framework for people-centered strategies that enhance retention, productivity, and profitability. My Performance-Culture Framework will not tell you what you should do. It’s a human-centered framework that guides you to solutions that fit your firm.
